Armed with a simple Canon Rebel XS and Canon 6D along with an intricate passion for capturing a moment in time, Kansas native Katrina McKinnis has been crafting her technique and love of photography for the past nine years.

McKinnis is the owner and photographer of Katrina Elaine Photography, based in Kansas City.

McKinnis began her photography career in the dark room, where she fell in love with the art – leading her to go on to complete 12 formal courses and even have her work shown in four galleries during Kansas City’s notable First Fridays in the Crossroads art district. She has also shown her work at Squid Foo in Springfield, Mo,  Stairway Art Space at HNTB and at the Summit Art Festival 2014.

Katrina Elaine Photography offers two photographic styles: Life Portraiture photography and her augmented reality series, “Adventures in Celluloid”.

The “Adventures in Celluloid” division was born from a fascination between Tim Burton’s unique dark style and a passion for studying movies. “I love finding real everyday people and morphing them into a movie character. My subjects always seem to be a perfect fit for the character, which pulls the entire process together. The best moments of the entire creative process are when I’m able to see my clients connect with their character during the photoshoot and their reaction upon first seeing the work; it makes for a rewarding experience”, said McKinnis.

Alternatively, the Life Portraiture division originates from McKinnis interest of capturing the authentic moments in a child’s life. McKinnis hopes that by creating a strong unique still image, the individual will have an impactful photo in which they could reminisce with as an adult.

“My hope is that you’re able to see my passion of creativity through my final works. I believe the equipment has nothing to do with how a photo will turn out; it’s all about how talented the photographer is. I’m constantly brainstorming new ideas, new photoshoots and new locations”, said McKinnis.
